About Marissa
Why I do what I do...
I have felt the
frustration and overwhelm that you are feeling about not having
the health you want. That’s because I have been there too. There
was a time when my health suddenly went down hill quickly. In
1999 I experienced a slew of symptoms that could not be named or
explained by my doctor or the specialists he sent me to. At age
24 my joints suddenly began to swell to the point that I could
no longer see my ankle bones and I could not fully bend my
knees. To add to the swollen joints my digestion was a mess,
everything I ate made my belly upset and bloated. I felt
horrible, achy, swollen and scared.
I couldn’t
understand why this was happening to me. What had I done to
deserve this? The worst part was that I felt helpless. I didn’t
know how to get myself better and neither did the doctors. Their
only answers were more tests and anti-inflammatory meds. I
refused to take the medications knowing that it was not the
answer; I knew I was not suffering from an anti-inflammatory
deficiency. I wanted my life back! I wanted to do the things
that had been a part of my life but became too painful to do
anymore. Things like snowboarding, biking and rock climbing. I
really wanted to just be able to touch my toes again! I was
really getting stressed out and little did I know that this
stress was actually making things worse.
No answers and
much frustration started me on my own research to heal myself
through nutrition and alternative medicine. I started going to
holistic practitioners and things started to get better. I
started to feel better and have some hope. But, I still felt that
something was missing, plus some days things were worse. This is
when I decided to go to school and become a Certified
Nutritional Practitioner. I wanted all the answers and I wanted
to be able to help others once I had healed myself. I graduated
with 1st class honours from this program in January 2004. This formal
education really helped me to implement all of the knowledge
that I have gained throughout my life from personal study to
growing up in a health food store run by my hippy mom.
There was one
extra thing I learned that changed my life and really began my
healing process. A realization that no matter how well I ate and
how many supplements and herbs I took I would only get so well.
This may seem strange coming for someone who promotes healthy
eating but it’s the truth. I needed to find the root cause. At
the bottom of every physical symptom is an emotion that needs
healing. You need to find the STRESS and figure out a way to
DE-STRESS. I took all of the stress, overwhelm, frustration,
irritation and anger that I had from what was going on with me
and started to transform it. I started changing my mind and my
body followed.
Knowing that
stress causes physical symptoms you can do something about it.
If you have stress in your life and it is starting to show up
physically get on it now. Don’t wait for something bigger to
give you a life changing jolt like it did for me.

My style..
My style is
relaxed and uplifting. I want to inspire you so you can create
your own inner strength and motivation. I ensure that your
protocol is doable for you and that it doesn’t stress you out. A
diet and lifestyle regime that is overly strict and regimented
can be frustrating and disheartening especially if you don’t see
results. I give you caring support and guidance to lead you
through every step of the way, when you are feeling good and on
a roll, but most importantly when you need a boost of motivation.
Personal support is needed if you feel that you aren’t able to
implement and stick with suggestions you have received from
books, t.v., the internet and friends.
Without healing
the emotional you cannot truly heal the physical. This is the
secret to getting healthy; that’s it and some where deep inside
you know that. Of course supporting the physical body makes the
whole process quicker and easier. I use Flower Essences,
Herbs, Homeopathy, Whole Food Supplements and Reiki to enhance
Nutrition and Lifestyle recommendations. With all the searching
and testing out different modalities and healing processes,
spending lots of money, time and sometimes frustration I got
answers and understanding. I have gathered a whole lot of
information that I am sharing to help others get the health they
want and deserve.

About YOU
My Clients...

I work mainly with women
who are always on the go and don’t feel they have time for
themselves. These women feel bad about where their health is but
don’t have the tools for change and don’t think they have the time to
change. They are often hard on themselves for not reaching their
health goals.
Some of my clients
have read many health articles and books and have tried to
implement the ideas but it hasn’t worked. They need support and
guidance directed to them. My clients may struggle with low
energy, high stress, cravings and emotional eating, weight
concerns and
PMS. They are looking for solutions that are easy to implement
and life changing without deprivation and hunger.
I work best with
clients who are willing to put in the energy and effort to get
healthy. I work with a lot of busy women who don’t know how to
fit getting healthy into their lives. That’s okay because I
teach them how to do it.

The Healthier Me Program...
The Healthier
Me Program™ is what I developed and use with each of my
clients to help them achieve their goals. By following some
simple guidlines, over several months, you will
achieve more energy, less stress, a stronger sense of yourself
and an understanding of what makes your body healthy. I want to
help you get inner calm, joy and health.
Here's what the
program gets you to do:

Make you and
your wellness a priority. If you
don't feel well, emotionally and physically, you can't make
anyone else well. We are the only one responsible for
ourselves, our actions, our reactions. We think our
thoughts. By creating balance and wellness within ourselves
we reflect wellness to inspire others to move towards the
same path.

what,
how, how much and when to eat. Learn the fundamentals of
eating, the basics, which is all you need to know. Move back
to eating food for enjoyment and health instead of
questioning every bite and asking what nutrition science has
discovered about each food then deciding whether it is
good or bad. Follow simple guidelines to decide the how,
when and what of eating. How
you eat is as important as what you eat. Learn what foods
really work for you and rediscover that you know what to eat
every time.

variety, taste and inspiration to your meals and your life. Support
your body with a variety of health giving foods to notice
the difference it makes to your energy levels, stress
levels, moods and more. Do you feel
